im sorry, but isnt choosing what clothes to bring to europe the most mentally strenuous thing sometimes? in general im ok, but theres always the "are these shoes going to hold up" and "what if this style is old news in europe" moments. i am having many of those.
no.1 = i just bought a leather motorcycle jacket and am questioning if i am over that style. no.2 = i thought i managed to skip over the clog thing, but now im thinking they might be so perfect and versatile for the combo of getting some height while walking through galleries. advice!
also, due to some feedback via comments and facebook, i have decided to bring my laptop on my trip with me. so i will be updating along the way of my travels!

clinging to the last bit of summer while i can. today was such a wicked hot day in one of the best summers toronto has seen in years. i may or may not have sunbathed in my backyard for a portion of the afternoon. especially soaking it up because i am appently headed to autumn in london next week. also: love this look. reblogged from knightcat. title from fiona apple's pale september

silver falls vintage is one of the more enjoyable and interesting stores ive been to in the recent past. it is on ossington in toronto, right near queen st and is curated with vintage, designer consignment, and antiques. i tried on an amazing black demeulemeester longsleeve, but it resembled my l'agence one too much. however, this is where i found my art nouveau jewelery box mentioned a few posts ago. i will definitely be frequenting this place from now on!

besides, it was a secret

Photobucket
two weeks from today i will be travelling to europe for 5 weeks. the only cities i have booked at the moment are london and paris, but i have intentions of also visiting with amsterdam, vienna, and geneva. and whatever else if something comes up, il ne faut pas louper le coche!
i really dont want to bring my laptop, but the thought of neglecting my blog and email for that amount of time doesnt seem right.. stay tuned/feel free to offer suggestions. for now, i am just concerned with practicing my french tous les jours :)

image from garance. title is from ernest hemingway's memoirs from paris, a moveable feast. hemingway would go to the musée luxembourg to see the cezannes, and reported, "i was learning very much from him but i was not articulate enough to explain it to anyone. besides it was a secret." this also describes my inability to describe the specifics of why i love paris so much. ps, i highhhhly recommend this book. its a quick and amazing read (if you like hemingways writing style). wow talk about a tangent.

gillian tennant (sydney designer now moving to new york) addresses many of my interests: simple, laid back, yet pretty. lingerie-inspired? check. versatile separates? oui. neutral pallette with some black on black? necessary.
check out her website and super tempting online shop here.

epic hair tucking! i love love love how this woman has put herself together. the volume in the pants, the tailoring of the jacket, and the dainty detail of the ruffles in the back... and the hair tucking!

i would like to draw attention to the fact that we are all so fortunate to be alive at the same time as karl lagerfeld. not only is he having a tremendous impact on the fashion industry for his designs with chanel, fendi, lagerfeld, and k - he is also one of the most insightful, strong, and uniquely intelligent individuals out there. some of the things he says, often paradoxical, make me think of his as a modern day oscar wilde. if only he would write more...

im sort of obsessed with this art nouveau jewelery box i got at a vintage store on ossington. the lining is ripped, but is the perfect colour. and its so heavy and wonderful. its one of those pieces that makes life richer.

sometimes you can just tell when someone is a stylist. they have a way of wearing clothes so easily that you cant pinpoint why and how they are looking so good. they also dont take it so seriously, clothes are just their friends.

the benefits of hitting shuffle

these 90s gems turn up in your headphones. in grade six i was totally wearing baggy pants and tight tanks because of gwen. stumbling on this song made me listen to tragic kingdom from beginning to end, and it is just as good today as it was then. i encourage you to do the same!
